#21 - Bolivia

Bolivia doesn't seem to really have a "national dish", but we learned that Picante de Pollo is a very typical Bolivian dish. It is most often served on special occasions and Bolivia's Independence Day and is made in all areas of the country, so we went with that.

Initially I was a bit worried that my translation from Spanish to English resulted in "spicy chicken", and while that is the translation, it turns out that Bolivian's don't really eat much spicy food and so this was actually pretty mild in comparison to some of the things we've tried.

The spiciness comes from the broth that the chicken is essentially boiled in - it's made of a paste made of hot peppers with bell peppers and tomatoes. The truth is that the spice level was pretty mild and the chicken had a nice flavour, although I will never really like boiled chicken!

One of the strangest parts of this meal is the serving instructions which was "serve with boiled potato, rice and barely-cooked peas". Pretty easy to follow that part!

Overall our Bolivian meal was OK. Unlikely to be repeated, but it all got eaten.

Next stop is Bosnia & Herzegovina!
