#17 - Belgium

I was working all weekend, which left Andrew and the kids in charge of our meal this week (although from what I heard it was really just Andrew). I was looking forward to the foods that I associate with Belgium - moules et frites, waffles, beer, CHOCOLATE!! But it turns out of the national dish of Belgium isn't any of these things, but is carbonnade flamande (which in fact did have a lot of beer in it).

Carbonnade flamande is basically stewed beef with onions. Interestingly it is traditionally served with applesauce and bread on the side, so that's what we did and it was unexpectedly really really good! So while I definitely missed the chocolate and this wasn't what we expected for our Belgium meal, it was delicious.

Jack was the provider of interesting and educational facts this week....so for your next local "stump your friends night" we will give you that Belgium is the world's biggest exporter of billiard balls. Who knew.

The only English speaking country in Central America is up next - Belize!
